The Next Big Game! Put on Hold Because of Snow?

It's mid afternoon on a cold and damp day in North Carolina. There's little to do other then go hang out with a couple buddies in ventrilo. As we sit and talk about gaming and the direction of gaming today. And the conversation as always turn's to gaming, after alot of debate and views and opinions on the state of the industry today. We have all come to the assumption that today's market is no longer about the true spirit of gaming, but more of how can we make the quickest buck. And as sad as it is to say this giving the current economical situation we are all in. I can see where everyone is just trying to survive, but is that really what we have gamer are willing to except these days? I for one remember the days were a story and how you and your party interacted with the world. And how the choices you made reflected the ending and maybe even the outcome of  the adventure you had set out on.

But as the years have gone by, I think most have us have made alot of compromises and how we game these days. The biggest think that comes to mind is how much media attention we feel games should or shouldn't have, really does influence what we play. To me gaming has really strayed from the ultimate goal of telling a story, for example why are we killing these ten boars, and running this package to this Npc. But for the most part we just trod forward and don't even care. I wish we could go back in time and remember the true root of gaming the story and how it tells an adventure.

I think the biggest pitfall of most games today at least in the Mmorpg realm. Is the fact it is no longer about us playing a role then playing a simple game mechanic, and try to figure out how we can beat the game. In a world were you yourself are a character in a vast story, we all pretend we know the story. But ultimately we are all just playing a single player pvp, button mashing, who can be the best game.

In closing, I think there will never be the next big game that we are all looking for. We should all learn to except that the true next big game, will blow in and out like a candle. We will never truly be happy with just one game but we should all strive to be involved with the story and enjoy our time. I truly think there will never be that next big game.

Now it's time for the future to tell the next adventure. I can't wait to see what the creative human brain's come out with. So in closing, I hope you have gained a little more opinion and outlook on gaming today.

And here is a little clip of the snow as it came down during me writing the blog.
